Clinical Presentation:
Upper abdominal tenderness, rigidity and rebound tenderness after blunt or crushing or penetrating injuries. Chest pain, dyspnea, and hypertension may also be present.

Etiology/Pathophysiology:
Due to blunt or crushing abdominal injuries from sudden deceleration in a motor vehicle accident, or more rarely stab and gunshot wounds.

Pathology:
Not applicable

Imaging Findings:
See abdominal contents such as bowel or solid viscera in the chest. Can be confirmed by passing a nasogastric tube or performing an upper GI exam.
