G Tube Check

Patient Preparation:
None

Contrast:
Barium

Technique:
Place the patient in a left lateral position.
Slowly inject the contrast through the G-tube
Make sure to fill the patient's stomach to its physiologic capacity when assessing for reflux. Obtain this volume by asking the parent the volume of an average feed, in ccs.
Take a lateral spot film of the tube tract into the stomach
Take a lateral spot film of the tube in the stomach
Take a AP spot film of the tube in the stomach
Rock back and forth to induce reflux

Views to Take:
Lateral films of the tube tract and the tube in the stomach
AP film of the tube in the stomach
