Clinical Presentation:
The typical adult symptoms are an initial loss of consciousness followed by a transient lucent interval. In children the symptoms are a rapid loss of consciousness progressing from drowsiness to stupor to coma.

Etiology/Pathophysiology:
Blunt trauma to a limited area of the skull causing inbending of the skull and stripping of the dura from the inner table during rebound with associated tearing of interposed vessels.

Pathology:
Not applicable

Imaging Findings:
Is more localized in children than in adults and produces more mass effect. Concomitant skull fractures are seen in only 40%. Computed tomography shows a lens shaped high intensity collection of blood.
