Etiology/Pathophysiology:
In utero vascular accident. Small bowel atresia is equally
distributed between the jejunum and the ileum. Associated in 25% of
cases with malrotation, volvulus, omphalocele, meconium ileus.
Pathology:
Not applicable
Imaging Findings:
Plain films demonstrate a high bowel obstruction with a few dilated
loops of small bowel. An upper GI demonstrates blockage of contrast
flow into the distal jejunum. An enema demonstrates a normal caliber
colon.
