Clinical History:
This patient was a seven year old female with a first episode of
wheezing at seven years of age.
Clinical Physical Exam:
Wheezing.
Clinical Labs:
Non-contributory
Clinical Differential Diagnosis:
Airway obstruction
Imaging Findings:
A chest film demonstrated a left superior mediastinal mass. A chest
CT exam showed the mass was not calcified.
Imaging Differential Diagnosis:
Neuroblastoma / Ganglioneuroblastoma / Ganglioneuroma, Esophageal
duplication cyst, Bronchogenic cyst
Operative Findings:
The mass was electively excised.
Pathological Findings:
Pathological examination of the mass revealed findings characteristic
for a ganglioneuroma.
Final Diagnosis:
Ganglioneuroma, Posterior Mediastinal
Follow-up and Prognosis:
The patient had an uncomplicated post-operative course.
